The My Best Teacher(s) Appreciation Initiative is a special program by The Academic Times Journal conducted through its Basic G and High G student networks across Ghana. The initiative provides a platform for students in Basic and Senior High Schools to write thoughtful tributes and positive reflections about the teachers who have made a meaningful impact on their lives.
It aims to celebrate the invaluable contributions of educators, foster a culture of gratitude, and motivate teachers to continue their exemplary work. The initiative is open to both current and past students, providing an inclusive opportunity for all learners to honor their best teachers.
Vision and Purpose
The initiative seeks to cultivate appreciation for teachers within school communities by encouraging students to express in writing the ways their teachers have shaped their academic journeys and personal growth. It is designed to foster a culture of gratitude, inspire teachers to strive for excellence, and document student voices in recognizing educational contributions that often go uncelebrated. Through the public sharing of these tributes, the initiative also serves to motivate other educators and promote a positive narrative around the teaching profession in Ghana.
Who Can Participate
Participation is open to current students in Basic Schools (Primary 4–6, JHS 1–3), and Senior High Schools (SHS 1–3), as well as past students from any of these levels. The initiative recognizes that the impact of a good teacher often resonates long after a student has left school, and therefore welcomes contributions from alumni who wish to honor the teachers who positively shaped their lives.
Content and Submission
Participants are invited to write sincere and respectful messages about their best teacher or teachers, sharing specific experiences, lessons learned, and qualities that made those educators memorable. Submissions should be personal reflections written by the students themselves.
While there are general word length guidelines to ensure clarity and consistency, the focus is on capturing authentic voices and stories. Optional digital artwork or photos may accompany written pieces where appropriate.
The My Best Teacher(s) Appreciation Initiative plays an important role in building a culture of gratitude and respect within Ghana’s educational landscape.
By encouraging students to publicly acknowledge the dedication and positive influence of their teachers, the initiative not only celebrates individual educators but also fosters greater teacher motivation and professional pride.
It helps strengthen the teacher-student relationship, encourages reflective writing among students, and promotes a national narrative that values and honors the critical role of teachers in shaping the future.
Through these collective expressions of appreciation, the initiative inspires continued excellence in teaching and supports a more positive, collaborative educational community.
